We are a local PTA organized under the authority of the Tennessee Congress of Parents and Teachers (Tennessee PTA), a branch of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers (National PTA). We are also a local unit affiliated with the Knox County Council PTA.
The activities of the KES PTA are coordinated by the Executive Committee and Board of Managers and governed by Bylaws and Standing Rules.
The Standing Rules include Job Descriptions for all positions on the board, as well as new Communication/Social Media guidelines.
The Executive Committee consists of:
- Elected Officers
(President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer)1 - Parliamentarian
(optional; appointed by the President and approved by officers) - School Principal
The Board of Managers consists of:
- The Executive Committee
- The immediate past PTA President
- Teacher Representatives
- The chairpersons of all standing and special committees2
1 The four officers are elected by the general membership at an annual meeting each spring for the upcoming school year. Officers are elected for a one year term, and may not serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office.
2 Any PTA member can volunteer to chair a committee, either for a school year or whenever a vacancy occurs. Committee chairs are approved by the executive committee. Special committees and new standing committees can be created by the board as needed. See our Job Descriptions for more details.
